About the Conference
The conference strives to advance the understanding of South Asia's history, cultures, societies, politics, issues and opportunities in a professional environment unique for SASA's warm collegiality. We welcome papers from all academic disciplines and all periods of time that address the rich tapestry that is South Asia's past, present and future.
We encourage you to join us for a stimulating and intellectually refreshing confluence of scholars from across the world. SASA enjoys a solid reputation as the place to network in the most congenial, relaxed atmosphere to be found in academia. Just by attending this conference, you will be sending a strong signal that South Asian Studies programs need to figure prominently in university life across the globe.
Keynote Speaker
The Keynote Speaker for SASA VI will be Eklil Ahmad Hakimi, the Afghani Ambassador to the United States (invited).
The Ambassador previously worked as an adviser in the fields of policy formulation, government reform, and institutional capacity building at the Independent Administrative Reform and Civil Service Commission and the Office of the Vice President. Additionally, he has expert knowledge in engineering and strategic planning.
The Ambassador's distinguished career in public service includes his time as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Afghanistan to the People’s Republic of China, while serving as non-resident Ambassador to Mongolia and Socialist Republic of Vietnam. He also served as Afghanistan’s Ambassador to Japan, and as Deputy Foreign Minister for Political Affairs.
Submission Information

The deadline for submissions is March 15, 2012. The program chair, Dr. Muthusami Kumaran, will respond to submissions via email within three weeks.
Registration Information
Presenters are required to register for the conference within two weeks of acceptance or be automatically dropped from the program. Payment for registration will be processed by mail or online through PayPal. If a presenter must cancel the registration before March 15, a 50% refund of the registration fees will be made. There will be no refunds after March 15.
Your registration includes admission to our Welcome Reception, The Tagore Exhibit, four coffee breaks, two catered lunches, the SASA Annual Awards Banquet, the Claremont Lincoln Plenary Sessions, and the Claremont Lincoln Reception.

The conference room rate is 99 USD per night. In order to get this rate, please use this link and make your reservations before April 1, 2012. After April 1 the regular rate applies, which is 139 USD.
Ground and Air Transportation
The Claremont University Consortium is located about 10 miles from the Ontario Airport (ONT). The Consortium is about 50 miles east of the Los Angeles International Airport (LAX). Extensive travel information from either airport can be found at this site.
